MOSAIC 2010 is almost here!

We are quite excited about plans for the 3rd Annual MOSAIC Arts Camp, to be held June 21 – 25th. We will expand last year’s theme which was “to use our God – given gifts to honor and glorify Him in all we do.” This year we will focus on the ‘wonder’ of the creation of our world and incorporate those ideas into our daily schedule and curriculum. We will open each day with a short devotional, singing songs about our awesome world, and a student testimony and prayer. Each day will culminate with a short recital featuring an area Artist who will share some of their discipline with the students and how they use it to glorify God. The student creations will be displayed this year at the ‘Galaxy Gallery’ which will be set up in the gym. Performing Arts will be featured on 1 of the 3 main stages there as well. A power point/slide show will be shown in the ‘Cosmic’ Theatre (banquet room) and will feature photos from the week of classes.

We will consider all of Psalm 8 and at the beginning of each day, the students will have some time to do team building exercises by creating a ‘heavenly’ name for themselves and a team chant. They always have fun during this time and enjoy sharing it towards the end of the week. This creates some fun team rivalry. We are thrilled to be able to add several new disciplines to our Art offerings, along with 2nd level classes for several areas which were taught last year. The disciplines include:
Art (3 Instructors this year, including Level I and II), Drama, Dance (levels I and II), Creative Writing and Story Telling, Vocal, Guitar (Levels I and II), Photography (Levels I and II) Sculpting, Pottery and Scrap Booking.

Rising 1st – 7th graders will be accepted this year. The classes will be set up by grade level as well as instructional level. Students in grades 3 – 7 will be enrolled in 3 classes which will be determined according to their choices. The 1st and 2nd graders will have 5 classes each day but will not make a selection. All registration will be considered on a first come, first serve basis and will be taken until all areas are filled. With expanded class selections and additional Instructors, we are pleased to be able to accommodate more students. Last year we taught 137 students. We are once again providing scholarships for those upon request and in consideration of their need.

The camp is staffed each day by a registered nurse who will have examined special needs designated on the registration form. Our nurses have in depth experience as ‘camp’ nurses for student activities. Students may bring their own snacks and a water bottle each day. Instructor bios and photographs will be posted by mid April. The 2009 MOSAIC Arts Camp staff included over 75 professional artists, adult assistants and teenage mentors. We will once again have an enthusiastic staff to provide an ‘out of this world’ artistic and creative week for area students.

If we stop and look at the world through the eyes of a child, we see that God created our universe as a divine artistic mosaic.
